What does a farm forester do?
Upon request, he helps the owner of a small woodland work out a specific management plan right on the ground. He recommends the proper protection and cutting methods; assists the owner in marking the trees to be cut; helps measure the volume; and advises him in the marketing of the products. Surveys indicate that 2,000 farm foresters are needed to assist the country's 4.25 million small-woodland owners; there are now fewer than 200 on the job.
